Darbuka is most well-known percussion instrument of Turkish music. It is 'durabukke' in Arabic, probably means to hit. It has wide-spread use in Arabian peninsula. There are many different types especially in Egypt and Arabian peninsula. For example: earthenware darbuka(in Egypt), Makarna(Makarka) and Yemen darbuka etc.

It is named in Turkey as Dumbek, deblek, dumbelek, gup, donbek in different regions. It is played single or with other instruments. There are different sizes of Darbukas which are made out of earthenware, metal(copper, brass), casting. Goat, kid and fish leather are used for its face. It is played by using fingers and nails.
